Sustainability

Research into underground ecosystems encompasses both their geological and biological diversity. As such, it contributes to sustainability, particularly in the areas of landscape conservation, biodiversity, water conservation, tourism, and education, and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically “4 Quality Education,” “6 Clean Water and Sanitation,” “12 Responsible Consumption and Production,” “13 Climate Action,” “15 Life on Land,” and “17 Partnerships for the Goals.” The sustainable use of karst, caves, and groundwater involves a wide range of requirements. Individual and integrated approaches are necessary.
